Its metro station is a prime example of how art and architecture can work together to create a more engaging and inspiring public space. Thierry Renard’s “Millefeuille” painting was inspired by bringing in the freshness of spring.
The purpose of the strategically placed colorful tulips on the station walls is to bring a little “lentefrisheid” into the lives of those who will be passing by. Similar to how humans vary in terms of being raucous or quiet, outgoing or reserved, prideful or lethargic, the flowers are a mirror of this diversity.
Also, the artist wanted “Millefeuille” to provide the observer with comfort on both sunny and cloudy days, comparable to the related dish. The vibrant artwork and unique design of the station make it a must-see destination for anyone visiting Brussels.
