General Cleaning & Maintenance

1. Erase the board with a latex or felt eraser.
Keep the erasers dry and clean them regularly.

2. Clean the surface with clean, warm water.

3. Rinse well with clean water and strip/wipe the surface with a good
window stripper/squeegee. Allow the surface to dry completely before use.

NOTE: Boards used moderately should be cleaned two to three times a week.
Boards used more intensely may require daily cleaning.

Removing Markings & Residue

1. Clean the surface with clean, warm water. (Use 5% Extran MA 02 or phosphate-containing cleaner in water and rub well with a kitchen sponge when necessary.)

2. Rinse well with clean water and strip/wipe the surface with a good window stripper/squeegee. Allow the surface to dry completely before use.

NOTE: To determine if your board’s surface is Polyvision’s e3 CeramicSteel, scratch a small, hidden area of the board with a sharp object, such as a key.
Polyvision e3 surfaces resist this test, while painted surfaces are easily scratched and damaged.

CHALK CLEAN2

Chalkboard Cleaning & Care

Polyvision CeramicSteel chalkboards are made for clear writing, smooth erasing and long-term use in classrooms, workplaces, and public spaces. With the right care routine, the surface stays clean, consistent and easy to write on.

Before first use

Before using a new chalkboard, prepare the surface with regular chalk. Rub the side of the chalk across the entire board, then erase it with a clean chalkboard eraser. This helps create an even writing surface and prevents the first marks from standing out too strongly. Use standard chalk that is suitable for chalkboards. Avoid oil-based chalk, wax-based products, or markers that are not intended for chalkboard surfaces.

Daily chalkboard cleaning

For daily cleaning, erase the board with a clean chalkboard eraser. Work across the surface evenly and remove chalk dust from the eraser regularly. A clean eraser gives better results. When an eraser becomes saturated with chalk dust, it can leave residue behind instead of removing it.

Deeper cleaning

For more thorough cleaning, use a clean damp cloth. Wipe the board evenly and remove remaining chalk residue. After cleaning, dry the surface completely before writing on it again. Do not leave the board wet for long. A dry surface gives better writing performance and helps avoid streaks.

How to reduce chalk residue

Chalk residue can build up over time, especially in high-use classrooms and training rooms. Regular dry erasing, combined with occasional damp cleaning, helps keep the surface consistent. If residue remains visible after erasing, clean the board with a damp cloth and dry it thoroughly. Make sure the eraser is clean before using the board again.

What not to use on CeramicSteel chalkboards

Avoid abrasive pads, scouring powders, wax-based cleaners and oily products. These can leave a film on the surface, affecting the writing experience. Do not use permanent markers, paint markers or unsuitable chalk markers unless the product has been tested and approved for the surface. If the wrong product is used, clean the board as soon as possible to prevent residue from building up.

Long-lasting chalkboard performance

CeramicSteel chalkboards are designed for intensive use. A simple cleaning routine helps protect the writing quality and keeps the board ready for everyday use. Use suitable chalk, clean the eraser regularly, and remove residue before it builds up.
