    Orphan Grain Train <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Orphan Grain Train, a nonprofit faith-based volunteer network headquartered in Norfolk, Nebraska, provides donated food, clothing, medical supplies, and essential items to people in need across 71 countries, including the United States. To support its growing mission, Davis Design was commissioned in 2023 to design a 21,000+ square-foot Servant Center Addition at its national office.<\/p>

    As a full-service design firm based in Lincoln, Nebraska, Davis Design specializes in architecture, engineering, interior design\u2014including contract furnishings\u2014and construction administration. Serving clients across the Midwest, the firm brings decades of expertise to projects that enhance functionality and community impact.<\/p>

    Integrated with the existing warehouse, the Orphan Grain Train expansion adds important infrastructure, including increased donation space, streamlined sorting areas, modern office facilities, and a multipurpose room for events and volunteer activities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    When <\/span>it was time<\/span> to <\/span>address <\/span>interior design, <\/span><\/span>Dayna Hoch<\/span>, an architectural designer <\/span>with<\/span> Davis Design, <\/span>says<\/span> that <\/span>for this brand-new <\/span>addition<\/span>, <\/span>OGT <\/span>wanted<\/span> a clean look <\/span><\/span>to help the busy <\/span>space<\/span> run smoothly for its many volunteers.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

    T<\/span>h<\/span>is<\/span> new <\/span>aesthetically <\/span>functional<\/span> design <\/span>direction included <\/span>replac<\/span>ing<\/span> the outdated pegboard map<\/span>s<\/span> used to track OGT\u2019s distribution locations<\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>

    Over time, these maps became\u00a0<\/span> cluttered<\/span> with <\/span>pushpin-mounted <\/span>photographs and string that were moved <\/span>as needed<\/span>, distorting the <\/span>images<\/span> and significantly reducing their functionality. Integral to the OGT mission and volunteer work, it was <\/span>essential<\/span> to reproduce <\/span>the maps using <\/span>a <\/span>durable <\/span>material that would <\/span>allow <\/span>the<\/span> flexibility <\/span>to draw<\/span>, write, and withstand repeated revisions without compromising the surface performance<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    That\u2019s when Lexi Grobel, Interior Designer at Davis Design, stepped in and suggested <\/span>Polyvision CeramicSteel enhanced with digital printing. Polyvision\u2019s innovative product presented an ideal, design-savvy solution, customized with subtly colored imagery to support the design scheme and contribute to efficient volunteer work and information sharing within the organization.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0

    <\/span>The power of tangible visual materials should not be underestimated \u2014 especially when it comes to information recall and collaboration. When people hear information, they remember only 10% of what they heard three days later.     Polyvision\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>digital print <\/span>technology <\/span>provides<\/span> accurate<\/span> image reproduction using specialized ceramic ink that becomes<\/span> permanently fused into the surface <\/span>through a high-temperature firing process. Like its <\/span>close relative, the <\/span>traditional <\/span>C<\/span>eramic<\/span>Steel<\/span> whiteboard <\/span>found in schools and universities <\/span>worldwide<\/span>, this unique material also functions as a<\/span>n<\/span> eco-friendly, sustainable dry-erase surface<\/span> but <\/span>with the element of custom artwork<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>

    These days<\/span>, <\/span>most people are aware that<\/span> art in the workplace<\/span> contributes toward <\/span>emotional <\/span>wellbeing and productivity. <\/span>Research shows that \u201c<\/span><\/span>well-curated art is especially effective at deepening workers\u2019 sense of community<\/span>\u2026<\/span> [there are] <\/span>many benefits including site-specificity, tactile immediacy, and an opportunity for embodied interpersonal connection<\/span>\u2026<\/span>fostering a sense of community and shared purpose within an organization.<\/span>\u201d
    <\/span><\/span><\/p>

    In an article titled \u201cThe Motivational Benefits of Art in the Workplace<\/span>\u201d,<\/span> the <\/span>author describes a<\/span>n <\/span>additional<\/span> point-of-view that<\/span> he calls \u201cReturn on Environment<\/span>.\u201d He s<\/span>uggests<\/span> that <\/span>\u201c<\/span>having art in the workplace is <\/span>less about aesthetics and more about pride in one’s environment.\u202fIt shows management cares enough about the employee experience – and the customer experience – to have a thoughtfully <\/span>maintained<\/span> facility that people feel good about working in.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
