Fruit at work - healthy eating

We support the health and well-being of our employees by offering 130 pieces of fruit in the workplace each week.

The fruit is delivered in FSC-recycled boxes, where we deliberately minimize the amount of packaging material. Employees are encouraged to reuse the boxes.

In addition, the fruit preferably comes from our region, which significantly reduces the impact of transportation on the environment.

We work with suppliers such as De Hoev, a social garden project that supplies organic fruit.

This project employs socially vulnerable groups and contributes to the local community and the carbon footprint in multiple ways.

To reduce food waste, surplus fruit is given to our employees, while fruit unsuitable for human consumption is donated to local animal shelters.

This initiative prevents employees from reaching for unhealthy snacks, which benefits their health. In this way, we support a healthier workplace and contribute to a better environment.

The supplier has also been Fairtrade certified since February 20, 2017, and the entire fruit baskets have been Fairtrade since September 18, 2018.

Ergonomics:
Workplace and Home

We want to improve the health of our employees in the office and at home.

In 2022-2023, we conducted a comprehensive ergonomics survey of our display workers. This focused on physical, psychological, and visual complaints and lifestyle factors.

Our approach replaces the classic periodic health surveillance, which has been no longer mandatory since 2016, with a five-year risk assessment.

Survey Results and Key Findings.

The survey allowed us to collect detailed data on the working conditions of office and home workers. The results showed a clear need for ergonomic adjustments, with some notable findings:

Strengths

  • Use of keyboard shortcuts:
    Score of 100 (benchmark 83).
  • Adjustability of chairs and desks: Score of 88 and 82, respectively (benchmark 76 and 18).

Areas of improvement

  • Arm support at keyboard and mouse:
    Score of 35 (benchmark 43).
  • Indoor climate and eating habits also scored below average.

Recommended Actions

Based on these results, we took a series of preventive and corrective actions to improve employee health and reduce absenteeism.

Training and Sensitization

  • In-company training: 2 to 4 hours sessions for ergonomic work with screens.
  • Working from home: Specific workshops and online tracks focused on healthy working at home,
such as the “Healthy and productive working at home” learning track for employees and managers.
  • E-Coaching and webinars: Focused on the long-term application of ergonomic principles, available on the intranet.

Individual Advice

  • Employees can request personal ergonomic advice via video consultation or in the office, with a distinction between standard advice and comprehensive advice for specific medical complaints.

Work Environment Adjustments

  • Screening office environment: Expert screenings are conducted at the office to ensure optimal workplace design. This is combined with the online survey and risk analyses to provide a complete picture of the work situation.
  • Autonomic advice for office design and climate studies to improve indoor climate was indicated as an area for improvement by 41% of employees.

Psychosocial Risk Assessment

Psychosocial complaints, such as stress and burnout, are addressed through workshops and training for managers.

Lifestyle and Prevention

Healthy eating and exercise workshops: include exercise challenges and exercise breaks to encourage employees to increase their physical activity.

Preventive exercises

Employees can participate in customized programs to prevent physical complaints such as back pain.

Long-term Ergonomics Policy

We are committed to a long-term approach to ergonomics by linking interventions to a broader, sustainable approach within the organization. This includes regular reviews and modification of workstations based on the latest insights from our risk assessments.

Priority Indoor Climate

One of the main focus areas for the future is improving the indoor climate, which directly impacts employee well-being and productivity. This is being actively addressed through targeted climate studies and adjustments.
